Though a search of my archives indicates I haven't blogged on this topic, I feel like I've mentioned this before, so I will link to this Megan McArdle piece on the problems of homeowners who are having trouble selling their houses and note that I am currently benefitting from* a friend-of-a-friend who is in this situation.
*I.e. living in a house, not an apartment, and paying something less than his mortgage in exchange for allowing him to keep it on the market, even though we've both discussed that it probably won't sell. Like all good economic transactions, though, it's a two-way street: he gets a tenant he knows and most of his mortgage covered.
