31.8.11

The last two items on this list, especially:

-Are "important papers" important? Or, the ones that were important in 2005 may be less so in 2011, so you can't just throw everything in a box every time you move and figure that once you've arrived, you'll go through it. You won't.

The two biggest reductions on this last move were clothes and papers. Papers were consolidated from four boxes to one (syllabi from past classes, handwritten notes, papers for which I have/could not get a computer file), and I finally succeeded in donating the many, many clothes I somehow owned but never wore, despite rarely shopping for clothes. I am hoping in the current year to do some serious book-weeding, the first candidate being political science books I have not read and will likely never need to teach (e.g. while I might teach intro to American politics someday, my textbooks from when I took intro ten years ago are unlikely to be useful).
