Christmas in Connecticut
It's interesting that this decidedly minor picture:
is a farce, which requires serious writing ability to pull off, since the elements need to scatter, form and re-form, and resolve in a satisfactory manner;
stars Barbara Stanwyck, and has a supporting role filled by one of the bad guys from The Maltese Falcon;
has in Uncle Felix a remarkable comedic minor role and audience surrogate;
gives intelligence and dignity to the two(!) speaking roles for African-Americans;
and goes pretty far in its fake-marriage and fake-adultery games for a 1940s movie.
It is, for these reasons, one of my favorites.
