Stevie Wonder, Talking Book
I've been making my way through Stevie's classic albums era, and this one continues to baffle me. Fulfillingness' First Finale showed well, and Innervisions remains the classic, but Talking Book... it has the best single song ("Superstition", duh) and a fairly solid opener and closer, but the rest is just... too slow? and maybe with not enough lyrical content? Like there's a tendency within this run to do "ballads" and "message" songs and drop the tempo much lower than in a lot of other R&B; none of them are bad because the musicianship is high across the board, but they're more to be admired than loved.
