Approximately 30 Days of Summer

In a perfect world, one's own individual taste would line up with all the things which are actually good. I can grasp the substantial appeal of Fiona Apple: talented singer-songwriter with a flair for the avant-garde. But, taste being as it is, I don't actually like a lot of her music. So "Please Please Please" is an exception. It's doubly an exception because its rhythmic tricks and chord progression sound very much like the Beatles, an association that is usually a fatal blow to artists that tread too closely to it. The song has to settle for being catchy, and having some good wordplay. It's also pretty good for dancing along in the car. And what else, really, can there be to a summer song?
