I was re-watching The King's Speech a couple days ago (a mass-audience end-of-year film that still somehow holds up to multiple viewings, go figure) and was reminded that I had first seen the movie with an English friend, who commented after that Winston Churchill was put in the film, most likely, so its American audience would have someone they'd recognize; it certainly wasn't that Churchill was very important for the events depicted. This reminded me of my own substantive criticism of Love Actually: why are all these British people saying "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Christmas"?

Anyway, Happy Christmas.
