Here's a little-known fact: Cheers is the only television program I would unequivocally recommend to anyone. This oral history does little to explain why, since the genius of the show is in writing an execution. It does a lot to explain how it was so good: every step of the process was guided by the conviction that good enough was never sufficient. It's my go-to source for inspiration when I have a problem of structure in something I'm writing, because the episodes are so well-structured that even when you are observing a trope or stock sitcom plot, you can never quite be sure which one it is you're watching, and so you end up invested in all the twists and turns along the way. The first five seasons feature some tremendously brilliant episodes. It's on Netflix and Amazon Prime. There's no reason not to watch it. Start with the Pilot and go from there...
