Maybe I'm the only person who ever thought this, but: wasn't Whitney Houston the equivalent of all those 80s metal bands (hair- and otherwise) who were technically proficient but for that reason not particularly emotionally resonant? I mean, Amy Winehouse at least wrote her own material.
This is leaving aside the double tragedy of her life: that she didn't take care of herself and she didn't respect or understand her unique vocal gifts well enough to protect them.
