A good appreciation of The Descendants, which, while definitely not as profound as Tree of Life, was still a very well-constructed film. I've been watching more movies lately, for a variety of reasons, and I think there's not nearly enough regard for the "good enough" film. On the one hand, there are avant-garde artistic films which can be enjoyable and of which there should be many, and on the other, there are tired genre exercises and multiplex crowd-pleasers. But I think it's enough that a film should do something interesting, even if in concept or execution it falls short of greatness: The Descendants, Moneyball, The Ides of March, even something like The King's Speech.
