Anti-Climacus

There's a section in Jeffrey Eugenides' The Marriage Plot where one of the characters talks for ten pages or so about the biological research he's doing. I got it, but not in a "I was able to follow that" sort of way, but instead in a "I already knew that" kind of way. Apparently I have been listening to my scientist friends all these years, after all.
