When clearing out my google reader, I found an old post on the Forest Hills neighborhood. It's from the blog Endangered Durham, as part of their never-ending attempt to chronicle the history of all the old buildings of my once-again home city. Forest Hills was designed as a suburb back when "two miles from the city center" read as "suburb." Though it's now been consumed by the rest of Durham, it has managed to retain quite a bit of charm--it's one of the rare 'suburban' neighborhoods that works with its extreme (for Durham) topography, rather than imposing a planner's vision on the area.
