I'm on the fence about whether this post by Tim Burke adds anything to the discussion Phoebe and MSI have been having about the merits of grad school, but it's another thing to consider. His other piece on grad school (this one) was influential in my own decision-making process, but this seems to be almost entirely from the professor side of things.

The discussion of interdisciplinarity and the limits of particular approaches reminds me, though, of the sage words of one Mike Munger: the most fertile ground is always near the fences, but that's also where you're most likely to be shot.
