Interesting interview with Michael Azerrad about Our Band Could Be Your Life. I liked the book when I read it, but I am a little uncomfortable with the idea that all the bands involved sold out when they signed to major labels. (By way of comparison, there's this article in Pitchfork on how Sonic Youth's move to a major label was smart for creative and economic reasons.)

Relatedly, I've decided the musical theme for this summer will be "American Indie from the 90s." I've been alternating writing with either Superchunk's "Slack MFer" or Pavement's "Frontwards" for the last day or two. I have also decided that I am emphatically on the side of Matador (Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices, Pavement) in the Matador-versus-Merge debate.
