28.4.11

I have a rule against visiting Front Porch Republic, so I can't see the rest of the article, but this aggravated me sufficiently that I do not feel the need to add to that aggravation:

While universities normally have centers and resources for those who have been victims of sexual assault — a trend that will likely continue so long as the numbers regarding sexual assault and rape on campuses continue to be pumped up artificially — I have never seen a university that made any serious effort to help students with the difficult duty of living chastely in the usually decadent environments of the contemporary campus.

Which, just... for charity's sake, I have to assume this is a rhetorical exercise and that the author in question is smart enough to recognize the (morally!) relevant difference between the two groups. The alternative would require arguing either that rape statistics are 'pumped up artificially' or else that our promiscuous culture is responsible for the frequency of sexual assault, and that one or both of these facts provides sufficient reason for a university to not provide resources for those who have been assaulted. Which I am sure is not what the author in question meant, because that'd be insane.
