Now I was pretty sure that the person who wrote it _was_ a fan of sci fi and was making fun of lit fiction types who think of sci fi that way. But I could be wrong.
Ah. Well don't I feel foolish? ;-) No I haven't read that - I'm currently waist-deep in Lois McMaster Bujold. But if you like it, I bet it's worth reading! I'll check it out.
Oh, I actually didn't like it, despite the wild praise it receives from most others. It felt weirdly derivative (as in stealing plot points) from other genre novels. I was hoping someone could explain why I was wrong about that.

Incidentally, have either of you read David Mitchell's _Cloud Atlas_? I just finished it and am curious what others thought.
