THOUGHT ON THE POLITICAL THEORY RUMOR MILL: I read it on occasion, but never, ever comment there, even to correct information I know to be false. Part of the reason is that anonymity works much better in theory than in practice in that forum: I can think of at least two cases in the last six months where someone left obviously identifiable comments, one who used turns of phrase characteristic of their academic work, and the other who had in-depth knowledge of a limited number of programs, trashing one and praising another. Then again, considering the vicious things that get said about successful people doing interesting work, the impulse to push back is comprehensible.

I'm just glad my name has never come up. (Then again, I've received a few hits on this blog for "Nicholas Troester post-doc," which is unnerving. Then again, I'll probably tell you if you ask.)
