ENDANGERED DURHAM: Durham, North Carolina, in addition to being a surprisingly nice place to live, has an excellent set of local blogs. The best, depending on one's interests, is almost certainly Endangered Durham, which moves around the city showing every building that used to be here as far back as records and photographs exist. Some of the entries are tragic, like the African-American middle-class neighborhoods that were bulldozed to build the Durham freeway, and are now vacant or home to (now-closed) auto dealerships. Some are just interesting, like today's, on the first water-pumping station for Durham.
