IDLE MUSING: I wonder how much of Prof. Deneen's objection would go away if it were the consent of parents that mattered to marriage, rather than the consent of the people getting married. Once again, the modern world, with all its mixed blessings, looks to me better than one in which marriages have "nothing to do with the wishes of the individuals who composed them."

I would read the whole thing, but I'm avoiding Front Porch Republic on principle. Someone please enlighten me if I've missed something.
