BLEG: I'm putting together some thoughts on the question of slavery in the 17th century, and am trying to get to something about the relationship between tradition and custom. I know of the arguments about tradition in a religious context; I know of the use and discussion of custom in, say, common law writing of the period. I am curious as to whether anyone has ever written about the two of them together.
Which is to say, I have a thesis, and want to see if anyone else has had it before me.
