FILE UNDER 'WEAKNESSES OF TECHNOLOGY': I am now giving Pandora another try, having seen it integrated with reasonable success into a low-key social gathering (read: 'term for game night used by people who don't really like playing complicated board games'). Having set up a few stations to coincide with my broad interests ('Indie Rock,' 'Hip-hop,' 'Country'), chaos has resulted. The Britpop station is a case in point: Pandora organizes the songs they play based on similar musical themes, and thus overlooks that the bands I listed (Oasis, Blur, Pulp, etc) all come from Britain, resulting in three songs by the Foo Fighters and one by Weezer over eight songs, none from their good albums. Also two very, very long songs from Oasis' Be Here Now, and, currently, "Cop Shoot Cop" from Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, a song famous for the long bridge section (~5 minutes) that lacks any rhythm, melody, or structure whatsoever. The machines are testing me.
