UM: So I totally got a response from Ted Barlow about the Crooked Timber post I linked to below. Makes me regret using the word 'stupidity.'

"You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but I emailed the NR myself to make sure that they knew about it.

Please understand- I don't think anyone is going to win, and I don't really want to fool anyone. What I want is for the National Review to act its metaphorical age, and stop running anonymous smears."

The underlying point is quite good, I think: no one who wants to be a respectable publication of any kind, even in their humorous side-projects, should be posting anonymous ad hominem attacks. Then again, it seems like running it as a contest to expose how unprofessional their journalistic standards are is somewhat counterproductive.

Then again again, as was pointed out in the comments on the CT post, no one is likely to unquestioningly believe the authenticity of anonymous e-mails posted on The Corner again
