I'm not particularly convinced by the assertion that Islamist and other civilizations are some kind of sine qua non for what Europeans and Americans have acheived historically (the discovery of zero) notwithstanding: as they say, had Einstein never lived, someone would've figured out the Theory of Relativity-- but had Dostoevsky not lived, there'd be no Crime and Punishment.
